why are all these famous people on this video? Are they saying that God has cut them down and they have been redeemed? Are they saying that they are tempting fate and that the live their lives waiting for the day that God will cut them down? Is this an advert for beauty products and the track has been dubbed on top? Are they taking the piss?

  3. God's Gonna Cut You Down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
    Tell the rambler,
    The gambler,
    The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
    Tell the rambler,
    The gambler,
    The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
    Tell the rambler,
    The gambler,
    The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

My take is that it is a warning in a way to hypocrites etc... that you may carry on doing what you do but it'll catch up with you in the end or maybe beforehand in some way... And hey we are all hypocrites in some way or other... so none of us can be more assured than anyone else... ho hum...

  6. That is one valid response.

  7. My take on it is similar to Adam's. I see it as a testimony song. The writer is testifying that God spoke to them, challenging their lifestyle, reminding them of its consequences. And within the context of it being a testimony, we can then assume the writer repented.

As far as I know this is a traditional song. I have a version of it recorded by The Blind Boys Of Alabama if you want a listen to it sung in more of a gospel stylee.

  8. what do you reckon the pop stars in the video are up to? Do you think they are 'saved'? If so it should be in the news!!!!

  9. I've really no idea what the people in the video are up to. But lack of knowledge has never stopped me from pontificating before, so... I reckon the producer of the video was wanting the viewer to ask the question the status of these stars, with reference to the context of the song. Are they sinners, are they saved, have they heard the call, are they condemned, have they repented? How can we tell, how could we ever know?

Galilee, this is a large region overlapping with much of the North District of Israel.

    why is Galilee mention?
Galilee was the home of Jesus during at least thirty years of his life. The first three Gospels of the New Testament are chiefly an account of Jesus' public ministry in this province, particularly in the villages of Nazareth and Capernaum. The Galilee is cited as the place where Jesus cured a blind man.

so who was the man from Galilee...

anyone notice in the video where it does a screen shot of the bible being read in the car. ( cant remember the name of the actor)
well its a New World Translation Bible. and it shows ezekiel 34 pretty clear if u pause it.
    heres what it says
    ezekiel 34 1-2
1 And the word of Jehovah continued to occur to me, saying: 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepards of Isreal. Prophesy, and you must say to them, the the shepards, This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said: Woe to the shepards of Isreal, who have become feeders of themselves! Is it not the flock that the shepherds ought to feed?

anyways it goes along with the song, i just found it interesting that they would use one of the few bibles that havent had gods name taken out of it by the church. But makes sense if the song was pointed at the church for feeding off the very flock they are supposed to be feeding.
"sooner or later gods going to cut you down". and for anyone still reading. check out rev 17:5 and 14:8 it talks about babylon the great falling, in short if you research it the bible says that god will put in the hearts of man to rid the earth of babylon the great. the bibles name for the world empire of false religion. interesting, maybe mr cash was a bible reader...???
